”Bodyflow helps to maintain and develop the way my body moves”
Kirsi Siltanen, 43
Physiotherapist

Kirsi is one of the very first Bodyflow students. After over ten years of practice, Janice’s approach to movement and the human body does not seize to fascinate her. The power of the mind in helping the body find its natural motion paths surprises over and over again.
Kirsi has had the fortune to follow Bodyflow’s development since the very beginning: she started taking Janice’s classes in 1996. As a physiotherapist Kirsi is accustomed to examining the body from an anatomical angle. She finds refreshing Janice’s approach that views the body and its movement from a dancer’s point of view, and uses imagination as a working tool. ”Sometimes it is hard for me to imagine, anatomically speaking, that some exercise is focused on a certain muscle group – yet I feel the movement right there!”
Kirsi also keeps Bodyflow’s teachings in mind in her work with children’s neurological physiotherapy. In particular, the use of mental images is a wonderful tool in the treatment of children. ”When you have personally felt how the exercises feel in your body, it is also easier to understand what my patients really lack.”
According to Kirsi, Bodyflow is a many-sided method that on one hand strengthens the body as a whole. On the other hand, it focuses on small body parts that are often neglected in other types of exercise. For example, in most gym classes articulations are left untrained except for a few spinal rotations at the most. Therefore Bodyflow is an excellent way to restore and maintain the natural motion paths of articulations often burdened by unbalanced postures and ageing.
Together with a group of colleagues, Kirsi takes regular lessons from Janice, year after year. What has kept her motivated for so long? ”Bodyflow is a pleasant and effecive way to train the body as a whole. Janice’s personality is also an important element: her teaching is never boring.”
